Resume Writing Tips Out of College
Resume Writing Tips Out of CollegeMost people enter the workforce with an eye towards building a resume in the hopes that it will give them an edge when they begin looking for jobs. Some people even believe that their resumes are crucial when it comes to getting hired by the employer. While there are many different types of resumes, there are also many different ways to write a resume. For one thing, you will find many options for writing a resume on the internet. You will find thousands of resume writing guides and materials that will assist you with the writing process. However, if you are still somewhat confused as to what to include in your resume, here are some resume writing tips out of college to help you along. One of the best and most useful resume writing tips out of college is to ensure that you know all of the company's requirements before you begin writing your resume. To do this, you will want to research the company you are applying for employment with online. Doing this will allow you to see how the company operates and how the employer perceives candidates who are applying for employment. To make sure that you are presenting yourself in the best light possible, you will want to make sure that you are able to provide the employer with information about yourself in order to best portray yourself as a candidate. If you have always been so particular about how you look and how you dress, you may want to consider taking an extra five minutes to pay attention to how you present yourself in photographs and videos. Try to be professional when possible and do not forget to include photographs of your professional accomplishments.Another of the great tips out of college is to be comfortable with numbers and procedures. Being able to read a business plan or understanding how the job application works will allow you to be more successful at the job interview. Of course, when it comes to writing your resume, remember that you are trying to make a positive impr ession, not just obtain a job.An interview can be nerve-wracking. If you find yourself not being comfortable with certain elements of the interview process, you should take a moment to reconsider. If you feel that you are not really on the same page as the company you are applying for, you may want to think about resubmitting your resume. If your resume has been rejected, there are plenty of other places to get resume writing tips out of college. One of the best ways to get an interview after being turned down is to create your own resume and take it to an employment agency to have it read by a hiring manager. Another way is to send in a cover letter and resume to the company you are interviewing for.You never know who you might meet on the way to or during an interview. Once you find yourself sitting across from a potential employer, it is important to be confident and happy about what you have to offer. If you put in the time to write a resume and apply for a job, there is no reaso n why you should have any regrets in the end.

Should You Re-brand Your Career as a Leader
Should You Re-brand Your Career as a Leader Should You Re-brand Your Career as a Leader? Should You Re-brand Your Career as a Leader? January 24, 2020 by Career Coach Sherri Thomas Leave a Comment Should you re-brand your career as a leader? As an executive, youâve worked your entire career to build a powerful leadership brand. You have achieved many successes, and have an impressive portfolio and reputation built on technical mastery, business acumen, industry knowledge and leadership skills. Congratulations! Youâve proven that you have the brilliance, drive, and resilience to be a successful leader in todayâs global economy. But now you crave something different. A new passion has bubbled up and you need a different career challenge. You may be thinking, Is it worth the risk to re-brand and leave my current job to switch career tracks? As a leadership coach inside a Fortune 100 company for the past 3 years, as well as having my own private practice as a career coach for the past 10 years Iâve helped more than 1,000 leaders re-brand and advance their career. In this article, Iâm sharing what Iâve learned about the biggest hurdles leaders face when re-branding and tips to overcome them. But first, letâs align on what re-branding means. Re-branding isnât changing from one company to another. Thatâs just changing your job. Re-branding involves making a major career shift and rebuilding your reputation in a different industry or job role where youâve never been before. How can you minimize the risk of re-branding so you can reap the reward? Get clear on the âwhy.â Re-branding yourself early in your career is easy. Re-branding later when youâre an established leader is tricky. Thereâs more at stake. Reputation. Lifestyle. Money. The possibility of failure. Stepping into a new role where you have little influence, smaller turf and limited brand cache is humbling. It requires courage to let go of mastery youâve worked hard to acquire. To help yourself stay strong while you forge a new career path, get clear on your motivation and why you want to change. Take inventory of what you could gain in your new role such as challenge, growth, passion, etc. Also ask, What am I losing by staying in my current situation? It may be costing you time to write that book, energy to start that new initiative, or acquiring funding to launch that new company. Getting clear on why you want to leave your current situation will help you stay the course and take action to change your career. Does re-branding mean a salary decrease? Not necessarily, but youâll need to be strategic. If you want to go from tech exec to a marketing leader, the first thing I recommend is to research the highest paying industries. PayScaleâs âEconomic trends: reflections on 2019, predictions for 2020â reveals that finance, healthcare, energy, retail, construction and real estate will be high growth industries in 2020. Keep in mind that just because you have a job in a specific niche doesnât mean that you must work in that specific industry. In other words, if youâre a leader in IT, it doesnât mean that you have to work in the IT industry. There are all kinds of industries and companies that need experts in IT, finance, sales, HR, marketing, communications, PR, customer support, legal, business operations, management, leadership and other fields. I successfully upleveled my own career four times by switching industries. Also, target the higher paying companies. There are companies within the same industry that pay more than others so do. Fortuneâs 100 Fastest Growing Companies list is based on the top three year performers in revenues, profits and stock returns. Finally, some job roles pay higher than others. I received a 32% salary increase simply by re-branding from a marketing to a technical role inside a Fortune 100 company. Same job grade, different role. Do your homework and research high paying industries, companies and job roles on sites such as GlassDoor.com and Salary.com What if I fail? There is a pivotal moment in every career change when you ask yourself, Am I REALLY going to do this? And then it happens⦠self-doubt creeps in. In our careers, as well as in life, change is always riddled with doubt. Fear of change. Fear of failure. Fear of the unknown. One of the secrets of re-branding is knowing how to set yourself up for success. Since moving into a different career requires that you have different skills and experience, youâll need to be proactive and invest in yourself to skill up. Go get the advanced degree, training or specialized certification if itâs required. I worked with a General Manager at a Golf Resort who was passed over for several job opportunities after being laid off, because he wanted his next employer to pay for a required certification. In other words, he was being rejected from 6-figure jobs because he didnât have a $3k certification. Invest in yourself to get the training, education and experience you need to re-brand your career. What if you fail? There are different ways to look at failure. You could say that you fail if you donât take the shot and try to re-brand your career. Letâs take worst case scenario and say that your new company, job or initiative fails. Then what? Youâll walk away with new knowledge, new experience, and a wider network. Failures are only failures if you donât learn something from the experience. How could you use the experience as a stepping stone to your next career? And finally⦠Thereâs a kind of quiet confidence that we all have down deep inside. A confidence that comes from knowing what weâre capable of doing. Believe in yourself and others will, too. As your Career Coach, my hope is that you re-brand into a new career where you feel fully empowered and appreciated. How to Write a Resume on Google Drive
How to Write a Resume on Google DriveIf you are running an online business, it is important to write a resume on Google Drive. This saves time and money by allowing you to share the same information with any of your prospective clients. The first page of the resume is often the best. A resume written on Google Drive is less formal than most professional resumes. You can save time and start the entire process of sending your resume with a simple click. When you send a resume on Google Drive the best thing to do is put it in the appropriate folder. The next thing you should do is copy the contact information for the potential employer so that he or she can contact you for further questions. A form that asks you to copy the information from your contact details is often the best way to go.Usually you want to have the contact information for at least two to three months. This gives you time to build up a relationship. If the potential employer contacts you then you will have a link to send them a resume. If you use the website known as Resume Builder, you will be able to add all of the important information that you need such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and current jobs. By doing this you will be able to make sure that it fits exactly how you would like it to appear. When you use Google Drive you do not need to be on your computer while you are typing. A long list of contact information is always good to include. You want to avoid having to type the information every time. You should also be sure to have all of the information that you need at the bottom of your resume. You can avoid having to type the information from the bottom of the page by including a table at the bottom of the page.

National Minimum Wage Fast-Food Workers Protest Nationwide
National Minimum Wage Fast-Food Workers Protest Nationwide Fast food workers are protesting outside McDonaldâs outlets and city halls around the country in whatâs become a fairly regular ritual in the buildup to the election. Indeed, whether theyâre acknowledged at tonightâs Republican debate or not, the âFight for 15â protesters have in a short time changed the national discussion on the minimum wage, with support for minimum wage increases now cutting across some of the traditional red-blue divides. So is this the presidential election that turns the tide for lower wage workers? Donât bet on it. Locally, Fight for 15 has had signal success, most notably in Los Angeles, where the $15 minimum will be phased in by 2020. And New Yorkâs governor just announced that the state would gradually phase in a $15 minimum for all state employees. Nationally, though, the $15 wage will prove to be little more than a useful slogan allowing all sides to demonstrate their ideological purity. Raising the minimum wage is genuinely popular. Last year, 73% of Americans surveyed by the Pew Foundation said they supported an increase from the current $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. Meanwhile, the national minimum wage has become all but irrelevant, with most states setting higher minimums than the U.S. anyway. Voters in Alaska and Arkansas, for example, passed minimum wage-raising ballot initiatives in 2014, even as Democrats lost a Senate seat in Alaska and the governorâs race in Arkansas (the second by a mile). The Arkansas vote will bring that stateâs minimum wage to $8 an hour in 2016 and $8.50 in 2017. With Arkansasâs low cost of living, $8 actually translates into the equivalent of $10.26 in California and $10.47 in New Jersey. If that can happen in deep red states, youâd think that a minimum well over that $8 mark would be an easy sell in the rest of the country. Not so fast. A rallying cry for liberals, the calls for a $15 minimum are also a boon to Republicans. The reason is that, while the $7.25 an hour minimum wage was becoming hard to defend with a straight faceâ"leading to unfortunate gaffes as candidates tried to say that they understood how hard it was to live on $10 an hour even while opposing an actual increaseâ"foes of a minimum wage increase have a much easier time arguing against $15. Thereâs strong evidence that small increases in the minimum wage donât hurt employment. The Congressional Budget Office sees a small decline in jobs, a big increase in disposable income for those at the bottom, and a (very small) inflationary effect from those at the top from a $10.10 minimum (a number that in inflation-adjusted terms brings the minimum wage up to its c. 1970 high point). But in the uncharted territory of a $15 minimum, the calculations change and the potential drop in employment is much bigger. Even some liberal commentators worry about the effects; Slateâs Jordan Weissman, for instance, believes that imposing San Francisco-level wages could mean major cuts in low-end jobs without corresponding benefits. As a result, the talk of $15 an hour has let opponents of the minimum wage skip over the $10.10 proposal thatâs actually on the table from the administration. Instead they can start painting a picture of millions of lost jobs from a $15 an hour minimum, as this Manhattan Institute paper does. And while it hasnât yet surfaced in the campaign, itâs certainly not lost on the conservative blogosphere that Fight for 15 is an effort that is fundedâ"and seems to be largely mastermindedâ"by the Service Employees International Union, a favorite Republican bogeyman. For the most part then, the $15 minimum wage battle is going to be fought on a local level, in city council halls (and plenty of back offices, too). There it will have some success, though the recent defeat in Portland, Maine, shows that supporters are close to overplaying their hand. A national $15 an hour minimum wage is not going to pass anytime soon. On the contrary, it hardens the battle lines, and will almost certainly push more Republicans to see rejecting the minimum wage as a core ideological test. While Democrats are looking at the protests outside the countryâs city halls, Republicans are most likely looking at Kentucky. Former Democratic governor Steve Beshear raised the minimum to $10.10 for state employees and contractors in June, and Democratic candidate Jack Conway made it a major election issue in the race to succeed Beshear this year. Itâs an especially personal issue in the South, where more workers earn between $7.25 and $10.10 an hour and would benefit directly from any raise. Despite all this, Conwayâs Republican opponent Matt Bevin repeatedly and vociferously opposed an increase the minimum wage, and handily won the gubernatorial race last week. That election was so polarized that you might say that party (or specifically, Tea Party) identification trumped any considerations of self-interest. Look for more of the same in the national raceâ"and perhaps in tonightâs debate as well.
